What exactly do i feed my pom puppy he wont eat

What exactly do i feed my pom puppy he wont eat

by Bree

(Detroit)

I have a 5 month old pom male and he barely eats, he waits until he is starving and only then he will eat. Right now he is eating Curver dry dog food for puppies, and he waits until he is starving. Ive tried soft, wet, and dry with wet mixed. It doesn’t seem to matter what i’ve tried he doesn’t seem to enjoy eating any of it and will only eat it because he has no choice and he is hungry. He isn’t ever starving at the same time either everyday. So I don’t know what to feed him or when. His eating schedule and what he eats is all messed up and I’m really out of ideas.

I need to know exactly what to feed him and when. Just telling me to feed him good quality puppy food isn’t enough. I need to know the brand and I need to know what exactly should I feed him for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course it will be your personal opinion and I know everyone doesn’t agree 100% on what is the best. I’m asking for your advice and what works for you and your Pom for other Pom owners who were in my situation.

Thank you so much

feeding your Pom

I know most people will not agree with this but feed him raw meat. He will eat! Your butcher probably makes frozen blocks of it. Get small sizes as he is a pup and needs to be fed 3 times per day. Feed outside as it can be messy but you will see your pups appetite improve and his health.
All the best,

Hard to Feed 5 month Pom.

by: Rita Rail

I think your Pom has a control problem. I have experienced in the past issues such as this in other households. I have yet to encounter any animal, cat or dog who did not like what they were being fed unless it was human food not even a change of food. At three months, my Poms and other breeds were changed to Hill’s Science Diet Small Bites and have been on this for their lifetime. None of my animals ever gave me problems in this area. My Persians did well also on any of the Hill’s prescribed for them. Here is my solution: feed him as per the schedule you wish, it should be twice a day for his full meal, do not stand guard!!! leave him by himself, if he will not eat, place him and the food in another room and close the door. Give him fifteen minutes. If he is not finished eating, give him longer if you feel he is a slow eater. (My other Pom Crystal gobbles her food. If he is not finished, do not say a word to him but pick up his dish and let him out. At the next meal time, do the same thing. When you feel that he has been eating this way for a along period of time, try feeding him where you want him to be fed. My sister has a Yorkie with a mind of his own, he did not want her to take his dish after feeding and would nip her hard enough to draw blood. He was very possessive of his food and in his mind, he seemed to think that if he could not have his dish, he probably would not have any food. I told her about the private room method, she feeds him in the hall closet with a liner under the bowl, she did not have to close the door, when he finished, she walked in and picked up his dish, no problem. He wanted Privacy because she was a threat to taking away his food. Try this and see what happens!!
