weeing and drinking issues

Hi I have a two year old male Pomeranian who I rescued from a house full of Chihuahuas last Oct. He frequently wees in the house and drinks quite a lot. He can go all night without weeing so not sure if this a health issue or behavioural. Any advise?

Take your dog to the Vet!

I am not a Vet, however, there is a strong chance that your Pom has Diabetes.

Weeing and Drinking

by: Rita Rail

My Pom Crystal, 6 years old was diagnosed with Cushing Disease while doing blood work for her annual checkup. This blew the socks off of me as she did not seem to have any health issues but doing blood work does not lie. I was explained that it was a problem with the pituitary gland in the back of her neck and she will probably live her lifespan. She is on medication which is agreeing with her as expected. She is lively and happy. The only change I found in her after six months or so is that she urinated a very large spot on her potty pad, perhaps as much as a thirty pound dog would. I had to purchase the pads for very large dogs. I questioned my vet but she was unaware of this. Crystal’s drinking had increased very much, so much that I added a third bowl of water for her and smaller Emily to share. I found a site on Google which has extremely enlightening information. “College Of Veterinary Medicine Pet Health” scroll down to “Topic: Cushing’s Disease. I am not a vet but I fully explore a health problem on these sites because this was new information to my vet. Your pup may be fine but if this continues, you should have it checked out as Crystal showed no outward symptoms. Take care. RR.

Weeing and Drinking

I hope that you have found out the problem with your Pom by now. With my Crystal’s increase urinating, I have had to purchase the large potty pads for her which she has no problems running up three stairs to urinate. As I informed you earlier, at times she urinates a lot and never misses. Perhaps your dog, because of his possible problem or, is not able to hold his water if he is drinking a lot, long enough for you to put him outside. I would purchase good quality Potty Pads and put them in an area which would be more accessible to him. Any possible solution should be tried as we are not mind readers. If he has diabetes or any health problems, perhaps he will also need the Potty Pads. Take care. RR
