Poor eating

Poor eating

My pom is 2 years old. She has never been a big eater, and has a somewhat sensitive stomach. I have never given her tap water because she throws it up. I give her bottled spring water.

She doesn’t eat much dog food and I give her very little table food. The vet said don’t give her anything but dogfood because she will eat it eventually. It worked for a while and all she ate was dog food, but now she isn’t eating hardly at all. In the last 3 weeks she’s probably eaten 2 cups of dog food (measured cups).. I even put table food down for her and she doesn’t hardly touch it. However she does drink plenty of water and will chew her raw hide dog bones alot.

Should I be worried? She’s got to where she pants also, even when she hasn’t exercised or exerted herself.

Poor Eating

by: Rita Rail

Your dog’s problem sounds very much with what I went through with Emily a short time ago. She was not behaving in her usual manner of being in charge of the household. She was eating less every day and did not want to play anymore and really looked ill. The vet suggested different types of Hill’s Science Diet foods for her until she finally decided to eat after sometimes refusing for two days. She final settled on the low fat moist food and I gradually added low fat solid food and eventually cut back on the moist and added two Small Bites (Hills) until she returned to normal. Prior to her beginning to feel better, I had to force feed her with a syringe because she was not eating enough. She also had prescribed medication and a blood test which showed everything as normal. She has been taken off of all table scraps which were minimal but she liked a tiny bit of muffin in the AM with butter. No more butter or table scraps. Nothing greasy. This took quite a long time to have her fully recovered. Please see your vet. Take Care. RR.
