Pomeranian Hair loss

Pomeranian Hair loss

by lynn

(batesville, IN, USA)

I have two poms – nine years old and 6 years old from the same breeder, although unrelated. My nine year old began losing her hair at age 3. She lost most of the hair on her back, tail, and back legs. The skin then darkened. I had her thyroid checked – it was a bit low, so we began drug therapy. The hair didn’t return. Now my 6 yr. old Pomeranian has started losing her hair starting a year ago! I feed them a high quality, grain-free diet. It’s very frustrating.

Have you tried

by: Mike

i do not know if it will help you out but look into Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade. It can be used on a rotation 3 weeks on 3 weeks off, it is also a natural dewormer. I use it myself and have used it on my dogs before. Look it up do some research and see if it might help out your two girls.

Alopecia X

by: Anonymous

Try googling Alopecia X. Also, consider consultation with a board certified veterinary dermatologist. This is a specialist with rigorous training beyond that required for the DVM.

Sounds like Cushing’s disease to me. My 6 yr.old Pom has this but not to this stage yet. She is on medications capsules every second day and is very well. I hope yours improves.

Pomeranian Hair Loss

I thought I should discuss this further with you as you have not advised us of any the conclusion of this problem. I will explain Cushing’s disease to you. This can happen at a very young age. My Pom was only five years old. usually they are older but because she is so young, I have been advised that she will probably live the span of life allotted to a Pom. She is finally on a low dosage of medication costing me $33.00 monthly. A capsule every second day after determining her condition. She is lively with a good appetite and is her normal self. The problem was diagnosed early during her annual blood tests only. This disease is terminal. I will be looking for the hair loss and the darkening of skin eventually. Presently, the only outward sign she has is that she is urinating quite a lot. I can deal with that using larger potty pads. RR
