My Pom is biting my Mom

Your Questions And Comments
Hello there, My 1-year-old pomeranian, Scotty, bit my mother this evening. She told me that earlier this afternoon, she tried touching his mouth, as to pat him, then Scotty snarled and tried to bite my mom’s finger. she was shocked, because Scotty has never done that to anyone. Then, this evening, when mom was trying to rub Scotty’s belly, he bit her in her left arm. She was really shocked and traumatized, because we really love Scotty. The thing is, Scotty saw only me as an alpha, and not mom. Although she treats him like a baby, she isn’t as strict to Scotty when it comes to what we don’t want him doing. Another thing, mom kept pinching Scotty’s balls—yes, his testicles—once in a while. it’s been 2 or 3 weeks since she started doing it, and I kept warning her not to do it because Scotty will be repulsive or defensive. It’s one of the reasons I suspect as to why Scotty bit my mother. About the incident earlier this afternoon, I ask mom how it happened. She told me she was just trying to pet him, and then Scotty just snapped. Mom and Scotty were lying on the floor when it happened. Fortunately, she was quick enough to move her hand. She said she didn’t hear him growl or anything when she was about to touch his nose/mouth. This evening, however, was a different story. Mom was using the laptop, sitting on the floor, laptop on the sofa. Scotty was lying under the sofa, which has a large space underneath, where he usually retreats. Then it happened. Mom was trying to rub Scotty’s belly when suddenly, he snapped again, and unfortunately, his bite got to her. She cried because she never though he’d do it. Then when I saw how traumatized she is, I broke down too, knowing how much she loved Scotty. I couldn’t help but shout at Scotty for biting, and shoved him away from me a couple of times when he approached me because we were crying. As I held my mother, Scotty tried to approach us again. He wasn’t whining or anything, it just looked like he was just curious. Now, mom doesn’t want to even touch Scotty. She wanted to carry him, but she was just afraid he’d try to bite her in the neck. I told her when we go to the park, I’d have her hold Scotty’s leash and I’ll try to teach her to be an “Alpha,” but she’s just afraid. Please, WE NEED YOUR HELP. PLEASE TELL US WHAT TO DO. WE’RE AFRAID THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE TO SOMEONE ELSE, AND NEXT TIME MIGHT BE A LOT WORSE, WHICH MEANS A LOT WORSE CONSEQUENCE, OR THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN

Biting your Mom

by: Sandra

I must say if this is a new behavior it probably started with your mom pinching his privates. Not something anybody would like let alone a dog.

Now your Mother is scared and Scotty knows it.They are smart animals and understand fear. Your Mother needs to learn to be the pack leader and soon. This unwanted behavior will only get worse if she doesn’t.

If you can afford it have a trainer come to work with your Mom and Scotty. If not you can learn a lot on Nat Geo Wild ( good dog shows on there) Do some searches as well online. I am sure you will get other responses on here.

Show more respect fpr the Pom!

Well, wouldn’t you bite someone who did something as painful as pinching Your balls?

Also, you mentioned Scotty retreating under the settee. This would be his space, and it’s important to respect this for any type of animal you keep as a pet. We all like time away from others, and animals need this too.

Your mum won’t have meany any harm, I’m sure, but she needs to think about her own behaviour and how this has affected the dog. He probably feels very defensive around her: she hurts him and invades his private space!
