Pomeranian Dogs, Pomeranian Breed, Pomeranian Information

My 5 year old pom randomly drools, but I don’t know why or how to fix it. Is this common? What could be the cause of her drooling?

I have a 5 year old, pure breed, female Pomeranian. She randomly starts drooling, its out of nowhere and there doesn’t seem to be a specific cause. This started a few years ago; she would only do it like once in a blue moon, but in the past year it has become more frequent but still completely random. When she first starts drooling she looses her sense of balance for a few minutes.
When this happens I normally put a bib on her, and hold her close. I try to give her water to keep her hydrated.
Sometimes she drools and has to throw up, sometimes she just drools and it’ll stop whenever. She will normally sleep it off.

I feed her pedigree dog food, sometimes adult kibble sometimes puppy kibble. She loves both. She is an indoor dog, always has been. Completely spoiled, and very well taken care of.

Is drooling common for poms? What could be the cause of this? What can I do to help her?

I don’t know if this information will help your pom but it seems to have the same problem I had with my pom Emily last spring. She began drooling and over the course of time this became to be more and more. She also brought up her food. The drool was thick and clear at times. She refused to eat and was looking quite peaked. I took her to my vet and she was diagnosed as having a stomach ailment. I had to take away her Hill’s small bites and give her Hill’s fat reduced soft can food. The change helped for a few days but did not help the situation entirely except that she ate a bit better. I had to change her to a few cans of Hill’s ID food. She also received antibiotics and was healed within two weeks. This may be what is ailing your dog. Emily was also getting a few pieces of Buttered toast with me in the morning before this all happened. (Too much fat). She has been very well since her low fat food and no more toast with butter. She is back on her Small Bites I think you are giving your dog too many different kinds of food. Since she has shown you she is having a tummy ailment, I would give her only the Low Fat or the Hill’s Small bites. All of my dogs have been on Hill’s small bites but as any humans they can get a tummy ache. Please see your vet and he will prescribe what is best for your pet. I can only advise you what I have always done for mine. Take care. RR
