Fractured radius in puppy

Fractured radius in puppy

by Cindy

(South hadley,ma,usa)

We just rescued a Pom from our local shelter-5 days ago. Today he jumped out of my husbands arms onto deck and fractured radius. Vet recommends surgery..very costly or splinting. Any thoughts on this. We are used to having golden retrievers, so this breed is new to us. Feeling a little overwhelmed righty now.

This is very common in the Pomeranian breed

We are very sorry to hear you Pomeranian has a fractured radius. Pomeranian’s are more prone to this problem. I have owned both large and small breeds. One of the reasons they get this highly painful condition is from falling or jumping out of their owners arms. This is a topic I plan to write about on this site. Most people would not hold a Labrador Retriever in their arms so why hold a little dog they have four legs to and know how to use them. I could not find any other treatment for a fractured radius other then surgery and it seems the sooner the better especially seeing as yours is a puppy. Better chance of healing. Some dogs have to have multiple surgery’s to get the bone to unite together. I am hoping when you adopted your puppy it came with a microchip? Where I live the microchip give you six weeks of pet insurance with the option to buy more. If not then yes vet bills add up way to quickly. I do wish you and your pup all the best please let us know how he is doing.
