The anal glands are in the rectum and have to be squeezed to be rid of them. Males are prone to this at times and dogs will drag their bums across the carpet or bare floor to get rid of them. A vet has to break them if the dog is not able to do it on his own. I had this done once and never again. The odour is ghastly. My vet recommended Hill’s Science Diet WD to break these when my dog would have a bowel movement. This worked very well for the balance of my dog’s life. I highly recommend this method of controlling this problem. Take care. RR
