Certified Dog Trainers can help you understand and train your Pomeranian to do just about anything. The problem is finding the one that really clicks with you. Sometimes a bad trainer can make you shy away from any form of discipline for your pet. Leaving both of you unhappy and unstable.

Just like your own kids everybody needs limits even your dog. No matter how small or adorable they are it is very important to have rules and stick to them. Without them you are not seen as a leader but as a follower. Leading your pooch to some very unwanted behavior. Even an alpha dog does not want to be in control but feels compelled to if his or her owner is not setting limits and challenging them on a daily basis.

One thing to remember is every dog is not the same and each Pomeranian may need a different dog obedience trainer to get the job done. As we have discussed in our Pom temperament page sometimes this breed can be quite stubborn.

So How Do You Find A Certified Dog Trainer?

There are many ways to start your search one is online with your favorite search engine. Depending on where you live you may end up with many choices or it could be just a few.

Word of mouth is a great way to start looking. Ask your Veterinarian, local pet store or your friends with dogs they will be able to point you in the right direction.

Once you find out your options phone them all up and have a chat with them. Tell them all about yourself and your Pomeranian. Let them know of any health problems or limitations either of  you may have.

Find out what kind of methods they use: for example clicker, treat, or positive reinforcement training. Then you can decide if this is the route that would be most comfortable for both of you.

One thing I have always done when finding an instructor is having a one on one session with them before buying a package deal. Sometimes I have tried several coaches this way to make sure I have found the right fit for my dog and I. Ask the instructor if they will offer you a discount to try them out.
