Aren’t tomatoes toxic to dogs?

Aren’t tomatoes toxic to dogs?

I am very interested in the very best for my precious Pom,Penelope.I was reading your list of beneficial fresh fruits and vegetables which include apples, blueberries, carrots ,peas and tomatoes. I have been very careful to avoid giving Penelope tomatoes or anything with tomatoes in it because I thought tomatoes were toxic to dogs. I would be very appreciative of some clarification on this point.I want my Pomeranian to thrive and love her life.

Thank you,
Cassandra Hogan

Tomatoes are Toxic to Pomeranians

by: Rita Rail

Emily was two months old when I gave her a small slice of cut-up tomato in her bowl. She consumed it in no time. Approximately twenty minutes later she began to moan and show signs of distress. Fortunately my vet’s office was still open and I was advised to give her a solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide in equal 1/2 ounce to one ounce of water to make her bring up the tomato. If no results in twenty minutes to give her another dose. Emily did not need a second dose. She began to shiver and I thought she was going into shock. My daughter removed her blouse, put her against her bare skin for warmth and covered her with a blanket. She stayed that way for nearly an hour and slowly recovered. I remember my one of my daughters being put into a shock blanket after her car accident. Therefore I used the same idea on Emily. I thought that animals could eat the same food. This is a great misconception. None of my animals get any food that has a smidgen of tomatoes in it. Apparently grapes are toxic also but along with a tomato in my shitzu Lucky’s salad, he was extremely fond of green grapes and good smell them in my shopping bags. My oath to my animals is “IF IT IS HAS NEGATIVE RESULTS DO NOT CHANCE IT ON ANY OTHER DOG”.

I LOVE MY PETS
