Adult female pom stays in bed all day

Adult female pom stays in bed all day

Purchased 5 yr old pom 2 wks ago. From the min I showed her where her bed was .. she attached herself to it. She is friendly, likes to be petted & talked to, will go outside to potty or uses potty pad at night. Currently has full access to 18 × 10 kitchen area & partial access to liv area when I’m in there. I have a 9 yr old Chihuahua who is a little reserved, but is warming up to her. The Pom stays in the kitchen 24/7, except to go outside … she follows me out, takes a little time to walk around, does her potty … goes back in house & gets back in bed. Won’t come when called, but I go pick her up & take into L.R. & she’ll let me pet her abt 5 min … wants down & goes straight back to bed. Won’t play with toys or ball.

Called prev owner/breeder & she says “this is a new behavior,I don’t know what to say”. My husband is just as sweet to her as I am. We’ve had her now for 3 wks & are anxious to know how to help her. She was going to be my lap dog … not so. Thank you.

Adult Female Pom Stays In Bed All Day.

by: Rita Rail

My pom Crystal has been loving her bed for six years now. When she is not sitting next to me in my chair, she is mostly in her bed. She sleeps in there in all contortions and peeks out at me to see if I am still around. If she does not see me, she hunts me down. She gets her exercise following me as she is not really interested in playing ball and other toys sometimes. She likes to dance when I sing to her. Her weight is exact as should be because she has Cushing’s Disease. Otherwise she is in fine health. My other pom Emily is extremely active and rules the house. No illness or weight problem there as she is behind me also. She must run up a short stairs about twenty times a day. My grandson’s cat Lila stays in bed all day except for eating and potty. She is five years old. When they came to stay with me, I gave her a new furry bed and she will not leave it unless to stay on Jordan’s bed for a bit. I don’t think I would worry about your Pom. She is not ill, so I am sure she will come around when she is ready. Just keep an eye on her. I have had many animals and all of them had very different characters. Take care, RR

I agree that each pom has there own personalities. I think that the bed is her safe place. She should warm up to you, just give it some time. She has to get used to all of her surroundings and all of the “house” noises. It is all very new to her. Good luck, and be patient.
